Harold L. Reece, Jr. Funeral Director/Embalmer

Harold L. Reece, Jr. is a life long resident of Twiggs County. He is the son of the late Harold L. Reece, Sr. and the late Grace Chance Reece. Harold graduated from High School at Twiggs Academy in Jeffersonville. He graduated of Middle Georgia College with a degree in Criminal Justice and is a graduate of Gupton-Jones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta. Harold is a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer. He has been associated with the funeral home since 1984 and has been a partner and owner since 1988. In 1994 he became sole owner and changed the name to Reece Funeral Home.

 

In 1992 the citizens of Twiggs County elected him to serve as their Coroner, a position he still holds. Harold is a member of the International Association of Coroner’s and Medical Examiners, and was awarded national accreditation by this association in 2011.

 

In 2000 Harold, along with William “Micky" Couey of Moores Funeral Home in Milledgeville, GA and Richard N. Stanley of Stanley Funeral Home in Dublin, GA, opened Couey - Reece - Stanley Funeral Home in Gordon, Georgia, serving families in Wilkinson and surrounding counties.

 

Harold is a member and past board member of Independent Funeral Directors of Georgia and is a member of the Academy of Graduate Embalmers of Georgia, the Georgia Funeral Directors Association and the National Funeral Directors Association. He is a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church where he serves as a Deacon. He is a member and Past Master of Cool Spring Masonic Lodge, and is a member of the Scottish Rite, the York Rite and Al Sihah Shrine. He is a former member of the Board of Trustees at the Masonic Home of Georgia.

 

Harold is married to the former Rebecca "Becky" Keene and they make their home with their two sons, Hunter and Jesse, just outside the city of Danville, GA.

In Memory of Harold L. Reece, Sr. 1924 - 2008

Harold Reece, Sr. was born in 1924 to Jesse and Synthia (Ralston) Reece of Wilkinson County. After the death of his parents, he was raised by his sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and Frank Williams. Harold attended Wilkinson County Schools through mid 9th grade and then transferred to Danville Schools to complete his education and graduated in 1942.

 

On October 9, 1942, Harold married Grace Chance of Twiggs County. He and Grace were married 65 years and had four children; Sue Ellen (Herman), Brenda, Cherry (Richard), and Harold Jr. (Becky). They also have six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

 

In March of 1943, Harold joined the Unites States Navy and served on the USS Leedstown in the South Pacific. During his service to his country he was involved in six major battles; Kwajalein - Jan. 1944, Guam - July 1944, Paleliu - Sept. 1944, Leyte - Oct 1944, Luzon - Jan. 1945 and Iwo Jima - Feb. 1945. Harold was discharged from the Navy in December of 1945.

 

Harold retired from Warner Robins Air Force Base in 1976, and was a retired Farmer. During his life he served five years on the Twiggs County Board of Education, Sunday School Director for Mount Zion Baptist Church and an active Deacon of Mount Zion Baptist Church for over 50 years. He was a member of Cool Spring Masonic Lodge #185 where he has served seven terms as Master and over 35 years as Secretary and at the time of his death held the title of Secretary Emeritus.

 

Harold was associated with Reece Funeral Home from 1990 to the time of his death, where he served as Vice President. He enjoyed reading western novels and playing golf in his spare time.

Henry Douglas Chance, Jr. Funeral Director/Embalmer

Henry Douglas Chance, Jr., was born and raised in Twiggs County, GA. He is the son of Douglas and Valorie Chance. Henry graduated high school at Trinity Christian School in Dublin, GA and is a 1992 graduate of Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science in Atlanta. Henry is a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer. He started his funeral service career with Allgood Memorial Chapel in Jeffersonville in 1989, and after graduating Gupton Jones College, he served as a funeral director and embalmer in Houston and Bibb Counties until returning to Reece Funeral Home in 2013.

Henry is a member of the Academy of Graduate Embalmers of Georgia, the Georgia Funeral Directors Association, and Cool Springs Masonic Lodge#185 F&AM in Danville, Ga.

In 2013 Henry married Whitney Cini Chance, and has a daughter Madelyn Jill Chance.

In his spare time Henry likes to do anything outside, including golf, fishing hunting, He also enjoys cooking, and spending time with his family.

In Memory of Charles W. “Charlie” Logsdon

Charles  W. “Charlie” Logsdon, was born in 1942 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. He is a graduate of Hopkinsville High School and Bethel College with an AA Degree in Business Administration.

 

Charlie was a resident of Jeffersonville and was married to Yvonne Taylor Logsdon for over fifty years. They have one Son; Rev. Duane Logsdon , his wife Jennifer and Grandchildren, Jonathan and Anna.

 

Charlie was retired from the Four County Bank in Allentown, GA. His prior employment includes, the U.S. Army, positions at Fort Campbell, KY and Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins. He was a former employee of Middle Georgia College in Cochran, GA.

 

He attended the Jeffersonville Baptist Church. Charlie enjoyed watching sports, bike riding and spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren.

In Memory of John C. "Straw" Faulk, Sr.

John, or "Straw" a nickname he picked up as a child, was born March 25, 1937 in Twiggs County, GA the son of John S. and Ruby P. Faulk. The oldest of Four children with three younger sisters. He graduated High School at Twiggs County High in 1955.

 

John was married to Joyce Bailey Faulk in 1958 in Jeffersonville, GA, and they have two children, the late Rebecca Faulk Akins  and Buddy Faulk and his wife Traci.  "Straw" and Joyce have four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

 

He was a member of the Jeffersonville Church of God, where he was a Sunday School Teacher for many years and a member of the Pastors Council along with many other functions of the church. He was a former member of New Richland Baptist Church where was raised.

 

"Straw" was retired from Armstrong World Industries where he was a general supervisor.

Juanita Floyd Austin Funeral Assistant

Juanita Floyd Austin was born in Macon, GA, the daughter of the late Margaret Howell Slaton and the late Matthew Gee Floyd.  She moved to Twiggs County in 1976 with her husband Wayne.  They were married over 44 years prior to his death in 2010.  They have two children, Keith (Christie) Austin and Amanda (Jamie) McDaniel. Four Grandchildren, Phillip and Tyler Austin and Morgan and Marshall McDaniel.

 

Juanita retired in 1997 after her career of 34 years in social work with the State of Georgia.  She was the Director of the Twiggs County Department of Family and Children Services. Following retirement, she joined the staff of Reece  Funeral Home, and also worked with the Twiggs County Family Connections. She continued to be active in her community with Communities in Schools, Even Start, Twiggs Leadership, Partners for Progress, and served on the Child Fatality Review Board and School Safety Review Board. She is currently a member of the Four County Area Exhange Club, the Twiggs County Chamber of Commerce, and serves as a Bailiff for the Twiggs County Courts.

 

Juanita is active in many areas of service with her church, Mount Zion Baptist Church. In 2011 Juanita was elected and currently serves as a Director on the Board of Oconee Electric Membership Corp.

H. Douglas Chance, Sr. Funeral Assistant

Henry Douglas Chance, Sr. is a life long resident of Danville (Twiggs County). He is the son of the late Henry Julian “H.J.” Chance and the late Sara Harvey Chance. Douglas is married to Valorie Dame Chance and they have two children, Henry and Beth, and one granddaughter Madelyn Jill Chance.

Douglas is a graduate of Twiggs County High School Class of 1967 and Middle Georgia College, as well as the University of Georgia Banking Institute. He is retired from the Banking business and is a retired Insurance Agent with the Twiggs County Farm Bureau.

He is a member of Grace Fellowship Church, and is active in his community serving with the Twiggs County Partners for Progress and the Twiggs County Chamber of Commerce.

In his spare time Douglas enjoys golfing, cooking and spending time with his family.

Richard E. Mullis Funeral Assistant

Richard E. Mullis was raised in Cochran, GA.  He is the son of the late Julian "Hank" and Juanita H. Mullis.  He graduated from Cochran High School in 1975 and started working for Georgia Kaolin in April 1976.  Richard retired in 2018 from the kaolin industry after 43 years.

 

He and his wife Cherry Reece Mullis, have been married 45 years and live in Jeffersonville, GA.  They have two children, Carrie (Michael) Martucci of Cochran, GA and Amanda (Scott) Radebaugh of Flowery Branch, GA.  They have three grandchildren, Lena Daniels (daughter of the late TC Deputy Sheriff Richard L. Daniels), Audrey Radebaugh, and Kade Martucci.

 

Richard is a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.  He enjoys hunting, fishing, and RV camping.  He began working with Reece Funeral Home in December of 2019.

Tony N. Allen Funeral Assistant

Tony Neil Allen was born and raised in Cochran, GA, the son of the late Homer and Mary Lee Allen.  He graduated in 1970 from Cochran High School.  Tony moved to Danville, GA in 1979 with his wife Rhonda Allen.  They have been married for 43 years and have two children, Kimberly (Jake) Hasty and Beth (James) Richardson.  He has three grandchildren, Rachel (Matthew) Bray, Alivia Allen, and Jaden Hasty.

 

Tony was employed at J.M. Huber for 31 years.  After retirement, he turned his lifelong hobby of fishing into a small business that he named after his grandchildren.  He operates A&R Jigs out of his home where he makes his own fishing jigs.  Tony is a very active member of his local church, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, where he serves as a Deacon as well as assist with video and audio for weekly services.  He is a very outgoing person that never meets a stranger and has a deep love for talking and telling jokes.

 

Tony enjoys serving the members of his community working with Reece Funeral Home.  In his spare time, he enjoys fishing.

Morgan McDaniel Funeral Assistant/Administrative Assistant

Morgan McDaniel, a life-long resident of Twiggs County, is the daughter of Jamie and Amanda McDaniel of Danville, Georgia. She is also the granddaughter of fellow employee, Juanita Austin.

 

Morgan is the newest member of the staff at Reece Funeral Home. She joined Reece Funeral Home in June of 2021 after graduating from West Laurens High School and Georgia Military College with her Associates Degree in General Studies in 2021. She continues her employment while she attends Middle Georgia State University. She is currently working towards obtaining her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology. She will graduate in the Fall Semester of 2023.

 

Morgan is a member at Mr. Zion Baptist Church in Danville, Georgia. She enjoys painting, ceramics, and other arts in her spare time.
